Sponsored Walk Last Day

Hi All

Well we did it. The last day was from Rugeley to Burton on Trent. It was meant to be 13 miles but it ended up being 16 miles!! I was sooo tired by the end. Dad and Paul kept on saying we were 'nearly there'

This picture was the start of the walk and the field behind us was what we spent most of the day crossing. Sometimes they had potatoes in, sometimes peas in, sometimes cows in.

Compared to the first two days which was walking along a disused railway and a canal this day was spent crossing fields and following the instructions was a nightmare.

Everytime we walked into another field the instructions were "walk along edge of the field until you get to a metal gate'. Unfortunately there wasnt usually a metal gate. My Dad said that was something to do with the fact that the walk was designed for the Millenium and we were the only people to have walked it since then!!

This was just before Dad and Gary had to bash a whole load of nettles so that we could find the path

This was me trying to find the path!

Anyway it took us 8 hours to walk the 16 miles and we eventually finished in Burton on Trent in the pouring down rain. We were all very sore but happy to have finished the walk

My Dad, Paul and Gary got very excited about the sign in Burton

Anyway it was really hard work and I had a sore back and legs by the time we had finished. Thank you to everybody who sponsored me. It is not too late to sponsor me on

Thanks

Sponsored Walk Day 2

All

Struggled today. Got a sore back and sore legs so not been happy!!

We have walked 13 miles today from Asda in Stafford to a place call Mavesyn Ridware which is the far side of Rugeley (or Ruggerley as Charlotte calls it). I didnt take my phone with me today so there was not the same excitement as yesterday.

This is me, Amy and Emily setting off

Passed lots of barges going the other way

This was us on a bridge with a barge going underneath!

This is us on Tixall Aquaduct
We then got to Tixall Lock where we helped somebody on a barge open and close the locks

Mummy, Charlotte and Amany joined us at Shugborough and walked with us until the end
This is Charlotte at 'Ruggerley'

Going to bed now. Last day tomorrow from Mavesyn Ridware to Burton on Trent. Another 13 miles. I am NOT looking forward to it

First Day of Sponsored Walk

Hi All

Well I have finished the first day of the Sponsored Walk on The Way of the Millenium and it was quite an exciting one (not the words my Dad would have said!)

We set off at 08:00 and Amys Dad dropped us off just outside Newport. He then drove the car back to Stafford (which was our finishing point today) and was going to run back and meet us (He likes running!)

This is at the start of the walk. We then walked along an old disused railway for about 5 miles before we decided to have a break

Anyway when we were having our sandwiches I realised my phone wasnt in my bag! So then Paul, Amy and Emily carried on walking while me and my Dad had to start walking back the way we came!

This was me just before I realised I had lost my phone!

We walked for about 2 miles whilst Mum tried to locate my phone on her iphone. Luckily it worked and it turned out the phone was back the way we had come. So to cut a long story short it turned out that 3 men walking their dogs had picked it up and when we turned back we passed them and Dad asked whether they had picked up a phone and they had!!

So at this point we had now walked about 8 miles and then had to walk another 5 miles to get to Stafford to catch up with Paul, Emily and Amy. So instead of walking nearly 10 miles today I walked 13 miles!!

Tomorrow is another 13 miles (as long as I dont lose my phone) and we walk from Stafford to East of Rugeley.

I will update more tomorrow

Kenya Fundraising Update

Hi Everybody

Sorry its been a long time since I did an update but I have been waiting for the 'My Donate' website to be set up so I could give you lots of details on what I have been doing and how you can help me!!

So what have I been up to since my last update....

Well the most exciting thing is that I have now raised £271 !!! So thank you very much for everybody who has helped me so far.

I have raised this mostly by baking cakes!!

We have baked cakes to sell at my mums office to the drivers, we have baked cakes to sell at St Michaels School so thank you to Mrs Gale for letting us do that and thank you to Amany and Erin for selling cakes to their friends during the tuck break!

The most cakes we have baked however was to sell at Amys Dads work. Paul trains policemen in lots of stuff so myself, Amy and Emily went to his work for the day and sold cakes to policemen. They were very generous and hungry because we raised £280 between the three of us which was brilliant! Below is a photo of just some of them! Thank you to Paul for arranging it all!!

We have also done a Table Top Sale with some plants and Cakes which got us into the newspaper.

The most embarrassing thing so far though  is when I had to dress as a toilet and walk down Stone High Street as part of the Stone Festival to raise money for our trip. We were toilets because we are going to be building toilet blocks when we get out to Kididima! I was soooo embarrassed and I havent forgiven my parents yet!

I am the one in the Blue Box hiding my face hoping nobody will recognise me!!

So what else have we got planned.....

A Meal where people buy a ticket and they get a lovely Chinese buffet. The profits from the meal will go to the Kenya trip so expect an invite!

A Paella Night. Chris our next door neighbour has got a Paella dish and we are going to arrange a Paella Party. More details to follow...

Myself, Amy and Emily are going to do a sponsored walk in the Peak District. This will involve overnight camping and about 50-60 mile walk. The route is still being planned!!

I have now managed to get my My Donate web site set up. You can go direct to the right page by typing in www.mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/ellawilliamson or just go into the My Donate website and search for my name. I did my 3km in swim in April but didnt have the website set up then so I would be grateful for any donations.

Thanks again and will send another update soon

Ella xx

Tuesday, April 16, 2013

Hi Everybody.

I have been lucky enough to be given the opportunity to go to Kididima in Kenya in October 2014. I will be going with a group of 26 Stone Guides and for the two weeks we are there we are going to be
  • Building a Toilet Block
  • Building a Health Centre
  • Designing a Mural for a Community Centre
I need to raise a minimum of £1200 to pay to get myself there and my accommodation once I am there. Once I have reached that target all further donations will help pay for all of the above projects which will really benefit the people living in Kididima Village.

I thought it would be a really good idea to use a Blog to keep you all updated with everything I am doing to raise money and how I am doing in reaching my targets. I will also be using it to ask you to help in reaching my target (you knew it was coming!!)

The ideas we have in the pipeline so far are :-
  • An Athletic Summer!! - Over the summer I am looking to complete a number of sporting achievements which I am hoping you will sponsor me for. At the moment these include
    • A 3km Swim - this is on Monday 22nd April
    • Complete the Staffordshire Way - 148km route through Staffordshire - not sure whether I am cycling or walking this yet!!
    • Complete a 5km Run (Dads just told me about that one!!)
  • Working in My Mums Office (for 50p an hour knowing my Mum!)
  • Selling Friendship Bracelets
  • Car Boot Sales
  • Arranging a Charity Meal (expect an invite!!)
  • Donating my pocket money when I am doing housework
  • Doing jobs for friends and family
  • Delivering leaflets
  • Plant Sales
This is just some of the ideas so far and I want to keep you all updated with photos and comments and all developments relating to the trip to Kenya

There will be a 'My Donate' website set up over the next couple of weeks and I will let you all know the details as soon as I can as to how you can help me reach my target.

Hopefully you will find it entertaining and I will let you know as soon as I have anymore updates.
